It's about that time again! This blog is one person shy of 100 followers, and I want to celebrate by giving something away! After a lot of thought, I decided to give away a copy of my favorite horror novel, The Heart-Shaped Box. Reading and watching a lot of horrors has kind of left me a little desensitized and jaded; however, this book scared the hell out of me! It is an amazing book that pulls in elements of classic rock, ghosts, antiques, groupies, etc. Awesome!

"Aging, self-absorbed rock star Judas Coyne has a thing for the macabre -- his collection includes sketches from infamous serial killer John Wayne Gacy, a trepanned skull from the 16th century, a used hangman's noose, Aleister Crowley's childhood chessboard, etc. -- so when his assistant tells him about a ghost for sale on an online auction site, he immediately puts in a bid and purchases it. The black, heart-shaped box that Coyne receives in the mail not only contains the suit of a dead man but also his vengeance-obsessed spirit. Now, determined to kill Coyne and anyone who aids him, the merciless ghost of Craddock McDermott begins his assault on the rocker's sanity."

No need to enter me in the contest. Just wanted to say what a fabulous book Heart Shaped Box is!! I read it a while ago and it is still with me. LOVED it!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't know that this classifies as a ghost story exactly, but my friends and I were really into playing the Ouija board in early high school (mid 90's). One time my best friend and I were playing it at my house and she was trying to contact her dead grandmother. Well, right after the board spelled her grandma's name (of course I assumed my friend was making it move), the lights in the bathroom next to us, which were on a dimmer, started turning up and down in dim mode by itself. We freaked out and ran outside, where we saw a rainbow around the full moon, which freaked us more. That incident always stood out as too creepy to explain!

ReplyDeleteMy ex-girlfriend experienced some strange happenings. It started with a loud breathing one afternoon while her and her cousins were making some pasta, they turned the gas off and left the room promptly. Later that night, the dog was staring at a wall, it then suddenly started to growl and attacked the wall. Whilst the dog did this, the chandeliers were moving and clattering. After this, they just had the occasional event, where a spoon would move around a cup of it's own accord or a sudden cold spot would appear. Once her aunty moved away from the house next door, all this came to an end.
