Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader. Every Friday, we share the first sentence (or more) of the book we are currently reading. Be sure to share your initial thoughts and impressions!
Here's mine:
"She wanted only to sleep.
"The plane had touched down two hours late and there'd been a marathon wait for the luggage."
The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver
My initial thought was, I feel your pain! Aside from feeling like a sardine, always ending up with the person in front of me in my lap, and major back pain from the horrible seats/cramped environment, waiting for my luggage is one of the worst parts of flying. You are almost always guaranteed a twenty minute wait surrounded by people who tend to be assholes. Come on, people, I know the plane was crowded, I know you have places to be, but please don't body slam/check me to get your luggage! And, yes, that happens at least once whenever I fly . . .
I don't enjoy flying for many reasons, but I'm always imagining lost luggage.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the snippet from The Bone Collector; I've been meaning to read this one, since I so enjoyed the movie with Denzel Washington.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
The Denzel Washington movie is precisely why I decided to read the book ^_~ My parents took me to see it on my seventeenth birthday, so it holds fond memories!
DeleteIt differs from the movie, but I am enjoying it!
Hopefully I'll have a review up soon! I've been battling a nasty cold since last weekend, and it has made it pretty hard to read. Needless to say, I am very, very behind :P
ReplyDeleteI cannot understand why people are so rude at the airport. No one is really happy to wait for their luggage, so why be an ass? If you ask me, I'll move! I might even be willing to grab your bag for you. Unfortunately, most people don't know how to be polite.
A few summers ago, they decided I had to be given a pat down. On my trip to Memphis, I fell and sprained my ankle and was wearing a brace. I guess braces have GSR on them (weird . . .), so they stopped me. I was taken into the backroom. The ladies with me were so uncomfortable (as was I), so I talked to them, joked around, etc. When they started patting up my leg, I casually said, "This is the time I would usually start charging. But, for you, I'll make an exception." She started roaring! They were so thankful that I was polite. They hate giving you a full-body pat down as much you hate getting them. People, they are here for our safety. Cut them some slack!
*sigh*
His books are too scary for me, no matter how good they are.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in the first 2013 Book Beginnings!
That is so familiar. One flight I think I waited longer for the luggage than the duration of the flight. Hope you're enjoying the book and thanks for stopping by my Friday post earlier.
ReplyDeleteI have been wondering about this book for a long time. It has a pretty innocuous beginning. I'm sure it gets scary pretty fast.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any books by Jeffrey Deaver, but I've heard good things about this one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog and have a great weekend!
